Transit Chief Foxx Unveils New Highway Transportation Funding Plan

As the construction industry and lawmakers keep an eye on the calendar, the Obama Administration has unveiled a new six-year, $478 billion highway bill which is now on its way to Congress. The May 31 deadline to renew federal infrastructure spending has elected officials at odds over how to pay for the nation’s deteriorating roads and bridges. TheHill.com reports Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx’s proposal comes as state officials prepare for a construction shutdown if Congress can’t find a compromise. Transportation advocates maintain a shutdown would cost the nation thousands of jobs, as  May is typically the beginning of the busy summer construction period, says reporter Keith Laing.
